Description
NDI® video does use a lot of bandwidth, this is why we refer to it as ‘Full/High Bandwidth‘ which is especially recommended for applications where latency can be critical (like in a live environment), therefore NDI® video should run on high speed AV dedicated networks.
NDI®| HX, referred as High Efficiency, uses H.264 video compression which allows it to produce high-quality video streams at low data rates, making it ideal when network bandwidth is limited (also suitable for public internet, remote WiFi, remote, large-scale networks,…). Now in proAV Apps, lower bandwidth is fine (no high bandwidth needed), all depends on each application, e.g. Medical (X rays, medical content with all colours information details etc) vs lecture capture where latency is not an issue but the sorage optimization should be met!
To give numbers, a full bandwidth NDI® will utilize about ~150Mbps with latencies of ~16ms for a 1080p60 stream where NDI®| HX will use anything between 1~50Mbps with latencies ranging between 80-200ms depending on the equipment used.
NDI® and NDI®| HX are both compatible with Vmix for instance and especially with the numerous free NDI 5 tools
